Berger Paints has signed a technology transfer agreement to explore pilot-scale and subsequently initiate industrial-scale production of green ammonia through an electrocatalytic method, without using green hydrogen.
The company will produce a stabilising agent for its paints using technology from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, an autonomous degree college in Belur in Howrah district, West Bengal. Currently, the company procures stabilisers from external sources. However, this technology is more environment-friendly and will also has a cost advantage.
Green ammonia production involves a process of making ammonia which is renewable and carbon-free. One way of producing green ammonia is by using hydrogen from water electrolysis and nitrogen separated from the air.
